My highest level accomplishments achieved include my contributions to the Strategic Plan for Denver City Council District. Through collaboration with the late councilwoman Carla Madison, I promoted several projects including:
Voter registration
- Situation: Low voter registration levels among young adults and Latinos.
- Task: Increase voter registration among these targeted groups prior to the 2008 elections.
- Action: Hosted 5 voter outreach rallies and knocked on 200 doors and provided bi-lingual assistance.
- Result: Increased voter registration by 3% and during the interfacing process built trust between the district office and the Latino community. The reputation of the office changed from a place to be avoided and fear to a place that can provide help in Spanish and English.
Economic development and the establishment of the Bluebird and Welton Street Marketplace Initiatives
- Situation: The historical Colfax Avenue and Five Points neighborhoods were considered blighted areas with extremely high potential for economic and cultural growth that would refresh these communities into chic and stylish municipal destinations.
- Action: Collaborated with former Governor Bill Ritter to select the Bluebird and Five Point neighborhoods for his marketplace initiative which provided funding for the revitalization of blighted communities across the State of Colorado. Coordinated the recruitment, selection, and retention process for the Five Points Business District Executive Director and staff in compliance with the state marketplace initiative.
- Result: Established the Five Points Business District in 2009 which has supported small businesses, quality housing and is working to attract national retailers to the Welton Street Corridor.
Eradication of the food and gas deserts
Situation: Within Denver District 8 are 5 grocery stores to serve over 55,000 constituents.
Establishment of bike depot and free helmets for children
